The problem
Our moms are holding it all up. With no paid leave.
Most North Carolina families get zero paid family leave when a baby arrives. Young families are being priced out of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and our schools are feeling it. Both our towns already give their own employees six weeks of paid parental leave. Every family deserves the same.

The bill we support
The NC Paid Family Leave Insurance Act
Senate Bill 480 would let any North Carolina worker take up to 12 weeks of paid leave for life's biggest moments. Not just state workers. Not just big companies. Everyone.
A new baby
Birth, adoption, or a foster placement, within the child's first year home.
A sick family member
Caring for a parent, partner, or child with a serious health condition.
Your own health
Time to recover from your own serious health condition.
Military families
Caring for a service member or handling a family member's deployment.
How it's paid for
Small weekly contributions from employers and employees go into a shared insurance pool, a lot like Social Security. Small businesses don't pay a whole salary out of pocket.
Where it stands
Filed in March 2025 and sent to the Senate Rules Committee, where it hasn't moved. That's where we come in.
What's already passed
Paid leave is already here. Just not for most of us.

How you can help
Two minutes. That's all it takes to start.
Pick your town, grab the script, and make the call. Then pass it to another mom.
Make the call
Leave a voicemail if no one answers. It still counts.
"Hi Mayor Foushee, my name is ____ and I live on ____ Street here in Carrboro. I'm a mom.
Thank you for giving town employees paid family leave. Every family in North Carolina deserves the same. Young families are being priced out by housing costs and property taxes, and our schools are feeling it. Glenwood Elementary is closing because there aren't enough kids.
Please pass a resolution supporting the NC Paid Family Leave Insurance Act, add it to Carrboro's legislative agenda, and invest in parents in next year's budget.
We are the backbone of Carrboro. Thank you."
